Eight years ago I quit heroin, two and a half years ago I graduated with a degree in chemistry. One month ago I found my first real job. One week ago I was fired.
Being fired is not a new experience for me. I’ve been fired plenty of times for plenty of reasons.
- Late everyday
- Stealing money
- Doing heroin
This time was different, I was shocked. In the month I worked there I had saved the company several thousand dollars on a much needed purchase and tripled our production speed by finding an overlooked bottleneck.
I felt like I was 15 and I’d just been dumped for the first time. All the key elements were there. I asked why, they said it’s not you it’s us, I told them I still loved them and to please call me if they changed their mind. (Joke.. I’m not crazy)
At this point I’m fairly well over it. It helps that I’ve spent more time underemployed/unemployed than I have employed. So it’s a return to business as usual and that means “hustling”.
